Best Food in the Bukit

Bali is a culinary adventure for your taste buds. The local food has been passed down through generations, and dishes stuffed full of fresh herbs, spices and a whole lotta Balinese culinary secrets. Nonetheless, after gorging yourself with all the sensational rice dishes Bali has to offer, it’s great to have a taste of home or to stimulate your senses with other worldly creations. We have created the list of our 5 favorite restaurants from around the world all in the Bukit of Bali. Get ready to enjoy a taste of Baja, phenomenal Italian, some classic Chinese, and of course our local favorite.  Selamat makan!

Warung Guerro

If your taste buds are craving authentic Mexican food, head down to Warung Guerro, directly in the middle of Ungasan lies the most unassuming turquoise restaurant. With a menu of only 3 items, they have it perfected: Mahi Mahi, steak, and veggie burritos. Each dish comes with fried tortillas, beans, guacamole, cheese, and the best hot sauce in Bali. Head down to Warung Guerro, it’s by far the closest you can get to Baja Mexico in Southeast Asia.

Casa Asia

One might not expect an Italian restaurant to feel right in Bali. If it seems odd, suspend your doubt. The pizzas are great and the specials sublime; spaghetti Alla Scoglioli was excellent. They even offer gluten free pasta. When craving a western meal or just want something a little different from your typical Nasi Goreng, Casa Asia is your spot. Located on the road to Bingin, it’s in the middle of everything, so be prepared to wait if you show up around 8. It’s a favorite to locals and visitors alike; luckily they offer free delivery as well. Colossal portions at an affordable price, can’t go wrong.

Waroeng de Dusun

Chinese food is arguably one of the most popular cuisines around the world. But choosing the right Chinese restaurant isn’t always so easy. However, Waroeng de Dunsun is a gem. The vast menu gives you limitless options ranging from vegetables, soup, chicken, beef, fish, shellfish, and squid. Each available with a variety of seasonings and sauces. Highly recommend the Mongolian hot plate, served on a sizzling platter the meat finishes cooking in front of you as the sauce boils and thickens. Interestingly, most plates are served tapas style giving you the opportunity to taste more of their delicious dishes. Priced around 23.000 per dish it won’t hurt your wallet.

Bali Buddha

Is the Bali party scene getting the best of you or your body craving nutrition? Be sure to check out Bali Buda in Ungasan, specializing in organic sandwiches and organic nutrition. The Bali Buda Cafe has been around since 1994. They have been offering ‘real’ organic food for years to the health conscious and educating people on the advantages of growing and eating fresh produce. They still make their bread with pure people power, even though they bake over 500 loaves of bread each morning before the sun rises. If you’re in need of anything organic to stock up on or just craving some healthy snacks, Bali Buda is the place to eat and shop.

Warung Balangan Corner

When talking about local warungs in Bali we are not talking about fancy dining or 5 star restaurants, we’re talking age-old family recipes that’ve been passed down through generations at hole in the wall restaurants. Never judge a book by its cover when it comes to local warungs, they spend their money on fresh ingredients not trendy decor. Warung Balangan Corner is our pick for the best local grub. Their secret blend of herbs and spices are incredible with the Nasi Campur being a must. Balinese Nasi Campur meaning mixed dishes with rice usually consists of small portions of vegetables, fish or meat with a mound of steamed rice. There’s no 1 “right” combination of flavors, so it’s rarely the same. Nasi Campur is bit-of-everything dish and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It’s the mix and match of the Balinese dining world and an assortment of Indonesia’s best bites. But one thing is for sure; no matter what style of Bali trip you choose, you’ve gotta try the local dishes – they’re on another level.
